Board Member Training and Educational Opportunities

The City of Laingsburg encourages education and training by providing access to organizations that provide training. Members are encouraged to sign up to receive training notifications directly from those organizations. The city has a training budget for elected and appointed officials.

Citizen Planner Program


Operated through Michigan State University Extension, Citizen Planner can be completed as a 6-week in-person program or online. This provides a strong foundation planning commissioners, elected officials and interested citizens. 

 

Michigan Association of Planning


The Michigan Association of Planning (MAP) offers numerous training opportunities on key topics including site reviews, planning and zoning essentials, capital improvements programs and community engagement. MAP also hosts several events and webinars each year and can bring training directly to your community. More information can be found on their Events & Education page.

Michigan Municipal League


The Michigan Municipal League (MML) hosts numerous events and trainings throughout the year. Their website is also a key resource for communities of all shapes and sizes. Check out their Trainings & Events page for more information.


 

American Planning Association


The American Planning Association (APA) is a national advocate for community planning and a great resource for current news, webinars and publications to stay up-to-date on planning-related information. APA hosts a national conference each year which is attended by thousands of planners and community officials. APA’s Knowledge Center is a great place to start when looking for training opportunities.
